There has been much chaos in my life recently. I am working towards creating some order to reduce the stress and anxiety, leading to balance and harmony.
Stop Worrying About What’s Gone Wrong
I have had many problems to deal with during the last couple of weeks. I have looked at them as challenges, but still I was getting depressed and feeling anxious.
Self-help advice is one thing and totally another when you are trying to apply it. I am working towards stopping worrying about the things that have gone wrong and the problems that I have to still deal with.
It is hard to stop worrying about something that has gone wrong, and is adversely affecting you currently. These things that have gone wrong may also have created other problems for you to deal with.
I am going to follow the advice from experts and treat my current problems as challenges. I will focus solving the challenges that are holding me back from my goals.
I will let go of what has happened in the past, as what’s done is done. I can only learn from my past problems and work on solutions to my current challenges.
I know it’s easy to give advice, but it is difficult to apply the advice yourself. I am dealing with the challenges whilst writing this blog post. I am actually doing what I am preaching. It’s not advice from myself, it’s advice from my research into dealing with challenges in life.
Create A To-Do List
I have acknowledged and accepted the things that have gone wrong in my life. I am looking at the challenges that I have to deal with to fix issues in my life.
The best way to figure out the challenges is by creating a to-do list. I have listed my problems (sorry challenges), and ordered this list by priority. This is not a comprehensive list, it’s enough for me to figure the challenges and work out the order in which they need to be dealt with.
I had read about creating a to-do list, and now I am applying this knowledge in reality. It has helped me to narrow down the challenge and figure out what needs to be done to get myself back on track again.
In the past, I would have just buried my head under the sand like an ostrich, hoping the problems would just disappear. In reality the problems don’t go away, they seem to get bigger.
Maybe the knowledge that I am researching is creating challenges for me to put it to the test. The good thing is that I am applying this knowledge, instead of just hoping for the best.
“One of the secrets of getting more done is to make a TO-DO List every day, keep it visible, and use it as a guide to action as you go through the day.” — Jean de La Fontaine
Stop Procrastinating And Take Action
One problem led to another, and the many more joined them. I was overwhelmed with a barrage of problem after, problem. It seemed like a never ending spiral of negativity.
Fear had engulfed me, it had paralyzed me into inaction. This fear started to transform into depression and anxiety, I had lost control of the power to dictate my life.
I had gone down this rabbit hole many times in my life. I can tell you that it’s not a pleasant experience. I do not want to end up depressed and hopeless again, things have to change.
The only way to change things is by taking positive action. I know if I just sit there thinking about it and not doing anything, things will end up getting worse.
I am looking at my to-do list and forcing myself to take action. There are many times, I just want to leave it till later or for another day, but I have managed to force myself to take action.
I know the only way to destroy the fear is by taking action. Once I have take action on items from my to-do list, I feel much better. Getting started is difficult, but it the key to accomplishing tasks.
There are many things that can be resolved by taking on the phone or sending out email, but we tend to delay for no good reason at all. Making excuses becomes a habit and leads to procrastination taking over your life.
Just do what needs to be done, don’t let excuses stop you from making progress.
You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” – Abraham Lincoln
Focus On What’s Going Right
I was focusing on the things that had gone wrong in my life, and this driving me towards depression and anxiety. Like the saying goes “you get more of what you focus on”.
I have started to switch my focus on the things that are going right in my life. I am counting my blessings and feeling grateful for all the good things in my life.
Our thoughts fire up our emotions, and our emotions fire up more thoughts of a similar nature. It’s a like a never ending circle that creates the reality that we experience.
Once you get into a spiral of negativity, you need to break the cycle by thinking different thoughts and feeling different emotions. Start by focusing on the good things in your life and feel the emotions that these bring up.
You may not have many good things to think about whilst your life is falling apart, but you need to find a few to enable you to break the circle of negativity.
I started to focus on my blogging and the goals and plans that I have written down. I am looking forward to the future that I want to create for myself. I am visualizing this bright future and feeling the emotions associated with it the present.
Focus On Your Dreams
You should not let a bad period in your life destroy your dreams. Stop focusing on the things that are blocking you from living your dream.
Acknowledge the obstacles and find a way of getting around them. Your focus should be on your end goal, whilst working on the problem (challenge) that is in front of you.
Focusing on your dreams will keep you motivated and on the path towards achieving your goals. Don’t let temporary defeat rob you of your dreams. If you want it bad enough, you will find a way around the challenges.
I was getting distracted by the recent setbacks that I was experiencing in my life. My focus had shifted away from my dreams. I have now managed to realign with my dreams.
I had been going one step forward and two steps back for a long-time. I need to go all out and continue moving forward towards accomplishing my dreams.
“Don’t give up on your dreams, or your dreams will give up on you.” — John Wooden.
Do What You Can And Get Help
Some challenges can be resolved by using the knowledge and skills that we already possess. It may be procrastination that is holding us back. We need to force ourselves to take action and persist until we have overcome the challenge.
There are some challenges that cannot be overcome using our current knowledge and skills. We may have to pick up specialized knowledge and skills to enable us to overcome these challenges.
You may also face challenges that require the knowledge and skills from professionals. We cannot learn everything and become experts in all fields, it’s also not practical to do so. It is worth paying for knowledge and services from professionals.
Do the best to overcome the challenges you are facing using your knowledge and skills. If you get stuck, you may need to seek professional help.
There are experts in various fields, ready to help you at the right price. Professional like doctors, therapists, financial advisors, tax advisors, lawyers, software engineers… there is always expert help available.
The Tide Will Turn
No matter how bad the current situation may seem, things will eventually change. If you persistently work on the challenges you are facing, you will eventually overcome them.
There will be many ups and downs in life. We cannot let the down times drive us in depression, just know that good times are around the corner. Deal with the challenges and continue working towards your dreams.
Sometimes it seems like there is no way out of the adversity that we are experiencing, but the truth is there is always a way out. The solution may not be one that is favorable, sometimes we will have to lose something to gain something.
I know that I am currently going through a rough time, but I also know that it cannot last much longer. I am working towards overcoming the challenges that I am currently facing.
If I don’t deal with these challenges they will get bigger. It is better to address these challenges whilst they are at a manageable level.
“The battlefield is a scene of constant chaos. The winner will be the one who controls that chaos, both his own and the enemy’s.” — Napoléon Bonaparte
There will always be chaos and challenges in your life. You will need to accept this and work towards creating order and overcoming the challenges.
Applying The Knowledge
I am not just pass on the knowledge that I come across, I am actually applying this knowledge to overcome the challenges that I am facing in my life.
I know there are many people around the world that are facing much bigger challenges than me. I am grateful that I have access to knowledge that I can use to overcome the challenges that I am facing.
I feel much better now that I have created a plan of action to tackle the difficulties (challenges) in my life. Writing this blog post has also helped me greatly, it has kept me accountable.
I had come across the saying “Knowledge is Power”, but it should really be “Knowledge Is Potential Power”. The power is only released once it is put into use.
“Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.” – Bruce Lee
The above quote by Bruce Lee sums this up nicely.
Back To Work
I have gone back to work after 4 nights off. The negativity at work is still there, I am trying to distance myself for it. The usage of mobile phones will not stop. There is a personal volume level that can be tolerated, but the idiots that I am working with seem to be deaf. All I can do is use ear plugs to cut out the rubbish.
I am using the time at work to focus on my dreams. It would be good to have some peace and quiet, but that seems to be asking for too much. I need to get out of this toxic environment as soon as possible.
I should not complain much, it is what it is. I have to get on with my life and work on my goals.
