This short story from the far east outlines the essence of success. Everyone wants to become successful, but how many are willing to do what is necessary to make them successful? Below is my version of this story.
Zhang Wei’s Search For The Secret To Success
All his life, Zhang Wei had been searching for the illusive secret to success. He could not work out why some people were massively successful in various areas of life whilst others struggled.
Some people lived in luxury, whilst others struggled to make ends meet. They grew up with the same opportunities and education available to them, some of them managed to attain massive success, whilst others lived in poverty.
Zhang came from a family who loved him dearly, but he lacked money. He struggled all his live to cover his living expenses. It was difficult for him to provide for himself and his parents. He ended up in debt and became depressed.
Zhang’s parents advised him to take time out and work on his mindset to recover for his depression. He decided to use this time to search for the secret to success.
Zhang wanted to get ahold of the knowledge that would enable him to become wealthy and get out of the rut. With his parent’s blessing, he started out on his journey towards acquiring the secret to success.
The Journey To Henan Province
Zhang left his home town of Fuzhou in Fujian Province and travelled South of the Yellow River towards Henan Province. Eventually he arrived at the foot of Wuru Peak of the Songshan mountain range in Dengfeng County, the Shaolin Temple was now visible to him.
After consulting many learned scholars regarding the secret to success, Zhang was referred to Caifu the Buddhist monk, who resided at the Shaolin Temple in Henan Province. If anyone could give him the secret to success in a form that he could understand and implement, Caifu was the man to do it.
The entrance to the Shaolin Temple was guarded by two monks, Zhang greeted them and asked to see Yi Dai Zong Sh Caifu (Grandmaster Caifu). One of the monks asked Zhang what it was related to, Zhang explained that he wanted to ask him a question related to the secret to success.
One of the monks took out a dice from his sleeve and asked Zhang to choose a number from 1 to 6. The monk explained that if the number he selected did not come up, he would have to come back the following day. This would continue until the selected number came up.
Many people had to return to the Temple gates many days, until their selected number came up on the roll of the dice. Zhang selected number 3, the dice was rolled and number 3 came up.
Zhang was granted access to the Shaolin Temple. He was escorted to Caifu’s quarters. Once he reached Caifu, he wanted to explain why he came, but Caifu said that he already knew why he had come.
Caifu showed him to a room where he could rest before he revealed the secret to success to him the following day. He left a razor and instructed him to shave his head whilst reciting the mantra “Ham Zareh, Nam Zareh, Kam Zareh, Dhum Zareh, Sika Rakum, Dareh Kum, Ishhey Bishkey, Trishkey, Wahegreh, Nahegreh, Buddah Saneh Maneh Ganzil”.
Zhang followed the instructions, shaved his head and went to sleep, wondering what was going to happen tomorrow.
Fishing With The Grandmaster
Zhang was awakened early in the morning by a knock on the door. He rubbed is hand over his head and realized that it was clean shaven, it felt a little strange as he had shaved his head only during his childhood.
The monk at the door told Zhang to meet Grandmaster Caifu by the Blue Monkey Lake. As he reached the lake, Caifu greeted him and asked him to join him for a session of fishing.
Zhang asked Caifu what they will be fishing for, Caifu told him that they will be fishing for the truth. It was the truth that revealed the secret to success.
Caifu started to make his way into the water and asked Zhang to follow him. As the water in the lake reached their chest level, Caifu slapped Zhang on his head three times and swept his legs to put him off balance. He pushed Zhang’s head under the water and held him there.
Zhang struggled to come back up, Caifu let him up to take a breath and pushed his head back under the water. This continued for 10 minutes. Eventually Caifu released Zhang, just as he was about to pass out.
When Zhang gained his senses, he asked Caifu why he was trying to drown him. Caifu laughed and told him that he had just given him the secret to success.
At first, Zhang did not understand what Caifu was telling him. Caifu told Zhang that he will become successful when he desired success as much as he wanted to breath whilst being held under the water in the lake. Zhang understood the lesson and thanked Caifu.
Zhang knew that he had to build up a burning desire for wealth, for him to become wealthy. Caifu explained that a burning desire for what you want is the starting point. He also mentioned that a plan of action is require and the ability to stick to the plan until the desired goal is accomplished.
The secret to success was revealed, but Zhang required a plan that would enable him to become wealthy. Caifu told him that he would give him a copy of a wealth building master plan that worked for every person that stuck to the plan.

It was time for Zhang to leave the Shaolin Temple. He thanked Caifu and the other monks, Caifu handed him a copy of The Babylonian Master Plan To Riches.
Once Zhang reached home, he opened up the copy of the plan and started reading it. The plan outlined 7 Steps that will enable anyone to become wealthy, as long as they stick to the plan.

Step 1: Save a portion of your income, even if it’s a small amount, and consistently build up your savings.
Step 2: Don’t spend more than you earn, and live within your means.
Step 3: Invest your savings wisely, seeking investments that can grow your wealth.
Step 4: Protect your investments and assets from potential losses, and avoid risky ventures.
Step 5: Own your home, as it can be a valuable asset that appreciates in value over time.
Step 6: Build passive income streams that will continue paying you even during retirement.
Step 7: Continuously improve your skills and knowledge to increase your earning potential and career opportunities.
Zhang Wei worked this plan for 5 years and was able to pay off all his debts. He also worked on building passive income streams that will continue earning him a regular income during retirement.
What I Will Be Using To Build A Passive Income Stream In 2025
