Most people in the world are programmed to adapt the employee mentality. The go to school, college and maybe university to get qualifications to enable them to get a job. Only a small number of people make a decision to build a business for themselves.
The Employee Mentality
The traditional route to employment was go get qualified and get a job with a company that used to last until retirement. Some people used to pick up the skills and work in their family businesses. The subjects they studies at school were hardly used during their work life.
The employee route used to work in the past, as most companies and trades offered long term employment. Times have changes rapidly, with many jobs and industries disappearing. Many people are working multiple jobs to support themselves.
There is no job guarantee, people are being made redundant without much notice. The cost of living has increased exponentially, but wages have not increased to counter this rise.
Most companies are cutting at the bottom level in their employment structure to reduce costs and save mid-level management jobs. This cutting away at the trunk is not going to be healthy in the long run. Eventually these companies will start to see their employment structures crumble.
I have made a decision to get myself out of this employee mentality. This will require a lot of re-programming of the subconscious mind.
The Self -Employment Mentality
There are a large number of people that are self-employed. They don’t want to take orders from anyone and want to be in control of their own work schedule.
Some self-employment sectors are rapidly disappearing and there is also a lot of competition in emerging sectors.
I have seen a large number of people become self-employed via Uber and Bolt as drivers. In the early days there was not much competition, but it is getting much tougher now.
Many people are also delivering food on a self-employed basis via Deliveroo and Uber Eats. This sector looks like it is also about to get saturated.
There are also many people working as self-employed (freelancers) graphic designers, programmers, video editors… via sites like Fiverr and Upwork.
Skilled trade people like builders, plumbers, electricians, carpenter… are competing for jobs via sites like MyBuilder.com
The self-employment option is better than working for someone else, but requires a lot of effort. There is a lot of competition within the gig environment (Fiverr, Upwork, MyBuilder…).
It also takes a lot of time and effort to build up your small business (restaurant, café, shop, barbers…).
The ideal income model is to build up is passive income. This is where you don’t have to actively be involved in working your business on a regular basis. You work hard during the initial stage of setting it up and then let others run it for you.
